Tykky, the ice forest

Since quite sometime almost every year in february I spend my skiing winter holiday on the Arctic Circle in finnish Lapland. Fir trees of Riisitunturi National Park are transformed under the weight of snow that changes into ice. This is the phenomena of the arctic rime so called in finnish  “Tykky”. I only photograph trees but they do not look anymore like trees! In front of me stands a silent and still army of strange beings, ladies of the 19th century, ice angels, sea monsters and dinosaurs in a fantastic fairy-tale world of bizarre contemporary art sculptures. I roam for hours wearing snow shoes on this fantastic cotton-white world, I look around like an incredulous child, exactly as incredulous as I was long ago when I first entered the Riisitunturi forest.
